Model History:

When the VW Lupo GTI arrived in 2000, it was well received by the automotive press, who lauded it as the spiritual successor to the Mk1 Golf GTI. Compact, lightweight, agile and extremely entertaining, it is easy to see why comparisons were made.

The Lupo's performance was impressive for a junior GTI and still remains so today. The naturally aspirated 1.6-litre put out 125PS and in a car weighing only 900kg ensured a great power to weight ratio.

Visually the Lupo was more aggressive with a low front apron bearing deep-set air intakes, flared arches, five-spoke 15-inch alloys, a boot spoiler and a centrally mounted twin exhaust, reminiscent to that at the time only seen on a Lamborghini Murcielago, to complete the GTI ensemble. It was equipped with Xenon lights, an innovation for the time and ESP was standard.

The bonnet, front wings and doors were made from lightweight aluminium to keep the weight down and make the most of the modest horsepower. Underneath, there were stiffer springs and dampers, a 20mm drop in ride height, and disc brakes all-round. 100 kph - 0 was comparable with a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S.

In 2001 and the Lupo was lightly improved and the original five-speed gearbox was replaced by a closer-ratio six-speed.

This car:

This Lupo GTI is a 2 owner vehicle with exceptionally low mileage and condition to match. The car was originally delivered in Southern Europe and used at a secondary residence before it was brought to the South of France 3 years ago as part of a collection. It was subject to routine maintenance and yearly checks within the official VW network.

The exterior of the car is finished in an elegant silver and is in completely original condition, no panel has been subject to accident or repaint which is rare. The car is also fitted with the optional sunroof.

The 15 inch alloy wheels are still wearing the original Dunlop SP2000 tyres, something which will be changed at the purchasers request due to the age, now some 20 years old.
The interior of the car is finished in red leather which also presents extremely well, given the little usage of the vehicle. Optional extras include the telephone and audio pack.
The air conditioning compressor was changed 2 years ago and was last serviced in 2021 with no noticeable issues.

This wonderful unmolested example of a cult classic in probably the best condition and lowest mileage on the market today will appeal to the enthusiasts who know how special this little car really is. It will be delivered with a new 'virgin' technical inspection, original manuals, service book and 3 keys.

The car is available for viewing by appointment in the South of France at the Garage du Panorama. Full documentation and detailed photographs can be provided on request.
